All of the winch parts laid out.

 
 

To disassemble, remove the cap screw first.

 
 

Separating the cap from the winch drum.

 
 

A flat washer goes between the drum pawls and the cap pawls.

 
 

Removing the drum from the base.

 
 

The base or spindle with pawls and bearings. Remove the pawls to easily remove and clean the bearings.

 
 

With the pawls and springs removed, the bearings will slide on or off. Use a waterproof grease on the bearings.

 
 

Two different types of bearing for the same winch. The delrin caged roller bearings are the newer style.

 
 

When reassembling, nsert the spring with the straight side towards the pawl. Use only light oil on the pawls. Grease can harden preventing the pawl from moving.
