Bowline
The "king of knots ." 

The bowline creates a standing loop in the working end of the line.  This extremely useful knot is very easy to undo even after being subjected to large loads.  Remember, all knots reduce the working strength of line, often in excess of 50%!

The basic bowline is shown below.  The last two pictures show a quick and easy way to make the crossing in the line.

Don't forget to work the knot up tight.
