Two minutes to the end of the final overtime in World Cup 2006 with over 1 Billion viewers worldwide, a
French soccer star has given a new meaning to the phase "butt head". With families and children watching, Zindine Zidane responded
to some up and back banter with the Italian player, Marco Materazzi, by literally "loosing" his head into the chest of his
opponent. Vile, dangerous and ugly are the only words that come to mind. What ever happened to the saying "sticks and
stones can break my bones, but words can never harm me"? In a world on the brink of self destruction, this type of diplomacy
does not help. Whatever the exchange was between these two players, their is no justification for this action. Furthermore,
in an interview after the incident, the French player apologized for his actions but then said that he felt no regret
for his act, "because that would mean (Materazzi) was right to say all that." I guess to Zindane, one does
not have to feel regret to be sorry. Not a very good teaching for the children he was sorry he offended. Zidane went
on to say, "My act is not forgivable, but they must also punish the true guilty party, and the guilty party
is the one who provokes." Am I missing something or is this idiot living on another planet? A
real man controls not only his tongue but his actions. I pity this man for having done what he did. Materazzi may be
a major a-hole, but actions definitely speak louder than words.
