Leah Christensen

natural pregnancy, birth and newborn mentor

fees and services

My role as a doula and mentor is to help women and their partners have powerful, satisfying and healthy birth experiences. I loved giving birth. They were the most gratifying and physically empowering events of my life and I want to share that knowledge. My husband is from Denmark and my female relatives and friends from Denmark always ask me why American women think birth is painful. I explain that it is taught in our culture. If you think that it will be painful and unsafe, your chances of needing medications or interventions will be greater. The key to having a positive experience is having the knowledge and confidence to question your birth environment and believing that birth is normal.

I want to thank you for your unconditional support these past several months. Your presence, knowledge, and counseling have really helped both Roberto and I enter parenthood with a sense of peace and confidence. I am so glad I made the decision to hire you.

William and I were able to make several positive decisions based on the conversations we had with you. The first and most exciting one is that we decided to have a home birth! I feel like that's what I always wanted from the start, but things were going in the other direction and we needed someone or something to bring us to a crossroads. You were it. Talking with you dispelled many of my fears so that we were able to make an educated decision about having a home birth - and I can't tell you how much happier I've been ever since.

doula services:

If, after the initial free consultation, you have decided to hire me, I am available to offer you guidance in finding a caregiver that you feel comfortable with. Throughout your pregnancy, I can explain prenatal tests and procedures and help you understand your options. I come to your home for a prenatal appointment where we discuss what you would like to happen during your labor and birth. We talk about pain-coping methods, medical procedures, and birth positions that work for you. We can even practice some techniques.

I offer continuous labor support beginning at the point where you decide that I am needed. I can be at your home or meet you at your birthplace. In addition to suggesting positions and guiding pain-coping practices, I can offer massage, hydrotherapy, and aromatherapy.

I stay with you until approximately two hours after the birth to make sure that everyone is doing well and to assist with feeding your newborn.

When you are ready, I come to your home approximately 7-10 days after the birth for a postpartum visit where we discuss the birth, I give you a written account of the birth, and I answer any questions and concerns you have about postpartum issues and newborn care.

You have 24-hour support from me via phone or email before and after the birth.

Extra pospartum hours can be arranged for an additional fee.
