Hello, my name is Jim Joyce, and I write books (mostly children's books).
[But, on the other side of the rainbow, check out my short story, The House, as well as the latest in poetry (My Wife (see below), Hidden Place and Green Eyes) that I've recently written at http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewpoetry.asp?id=201851 .  I would really like to hear back from you on what you think about my latest endeavor in writing.]
Well, my long awaited 2nd book, Hammie, the Soccer Playing Hamster, is finally finished and available on-line at Lulu.com.  The book is available in hardback format or as a download [and it really does make an excellent birthday gift (for your children's friends), a Christmas gift for your neighbors who have small children, a Christmas stocking stuffer or just a sercie for someone you care about.]  If you have ordered the book from Lulu.com, and would like an autographed book plate to place inside the cover, just e-mail me (leman94603@mypacks.net) and tell me where to send it.  In addition, if would like to order the book directly from me instead of Lulu.com, let me know that also (this will save you on S&H charges, as well as delivery time).
SPECIAL DEAL!  For the first five (5) people who order Hammie, the Soccer Playing Hamsteror Santa's SUV  from me, I will send you a signed copy of my first book, Our Family, absolutely FREE!
Hammie, the Soccer Playing Hamster is very special to me because my son, Brad, drew all the illustrations for it (and if I may say, he did a wonderful job)!

Press Release: http://www.free-press-release.com/news/200709/1190310150.html

Current plans are for a 2nd book in the series about "Hammie, the Soccer Playing Hamster" to be published in early 2008.
An old friend from my Homelite days in Charlotte, NC, (say 'Hello' to Bruce Johnson) and I have been working on a book based upon a song that he co-wrote with some other members of his family entitled Santa's SUV.  We have just released the MP3 of the song on Lulu.com (see link below), with the book version following in October.  The MP3 of the song is downloadable, and is sort of an early peek of Bruce's musical talents since he is about to release his first full CD – a collection of his best original songs from the past five years.
Check it out if you get the chance.

My Wife

From the heart...

I try to be the person you want me to be.
I try because I love you and it’s important to me.
I try because you are the love of my life.
I try because you are my wife.

Others may question the why.
Still others may see that I would die,
If you were not there in my life.
I try because you are my wife.

In the end it comes down to one little thing.
It’s not much … it’s just a ring.
I try because you are my life.
I try because you are my wife.

[Original song by B. Johnson, J. Johnson, L. Johnson, S. McNeill & T. McNeill, 2002 Bruce Johnson]

"A few months ago I renewed an old friendship via the web and email when I found out Jim Joyce had authored his first children's book.

I used to work with Jim a few decades ago in another lifetime.  We got to conversing and I told him about a fun Christmas song written by several members of my family over Thanksgiving vacation 2001.   One thing lead to another and next thing we knew, we were turning Santa's SUV into a book and MP3 download project."

       — Bruce Johnson

What they're saying about the MP3:

Bruce Johnson has always been a fine singer/songwriter, but when it comes to writing a whimsical parable he is in a class all by himself. And his masterful Santa’s SUV demonstrates that talent to its fullest. From beginning to end this song keeps you entertained and inspired. Those good girls and boys are going to get their toys no matter what it takes. Santa’s SUV is destined to become an instant Christmas classic.

      —  Ken Widis, Singer/Songwriter, Charlotte, NC

What they're saying about the MP3:

Just listened to Santa's SUV.  Great job Bruce and everyone involved.  Cute and clever.  Think you've got a real winner and just in time for Christmas.

      —  Jeff Luckadoo, Singer/Songwriter, Mount Holly, NC

What they're saying about the MP3:
The Art Box Kids produced a CD of original music to add to the arts and crafts supplies that we send to children in hospitals and shelters.  Of the 16 tunes on the CD, Santa's SUV is over the top with the kids.  The children love the song!

     — Michael Everitt, Director, The Art Box Kids, Matthews, NC

[A collaboration with Bruce Johnson. Based on the original song by B. Johnson, J. Johnson, L. Johnson, S. McNeill & T. McNeill, 2002 Bruce Johnson]
In today’s times, it’s even more important for Santa to get from one place to another very quickly on Christmas Eve, so Rudolph and the gang tried to make it easier on him. So what was this secret plan the reindeer had for Santa ....???

What they're saying about the book:
Santa's SUV has a great groove and keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next cool lyric.  A cheery romp from a wonderful songwriter into his art.  The book compliments the song with whimsical pictures on Santa dealing with the Christmas rush and an opinionated workforce.  Enjoy this delightful tale.

Hammie, the Soccer Playing Hamster: July, 2007
"Hi, my name is Hammie, and I'm the greatest soccer playing hamster you've ever seen.  You see, I was named after Mia Hamm, the greatest female soccer playing human in the history of the game.  My parents were owned by a girl who watched Mia play on TV, so they named me 'Hammie' when I was born."

What they're saying about Hammie:
The partnership between story and art really brings the two worlds of sportsmanship and teamwork together perfectly! HAMMIE is a joy for any child but is a necessity for any young, aspiring, female athlete. For this is the book that proves "GIRL POWER" rocks!

— Tyler Durden, Charlotte, NC

What they're saying about Hammie:
This is a wonderful and entertaining book for all little soccer players out there. My daughter can relate to it and told her coach all about Hammie.
We love the illustrations and hope to see a sequence soon.

— Alexandra Reh, Charlotte, NC

What they're saying about Hammie:

Ultimately this is a story about one of the benefits of children playing sports – overcoming adversity.  There is always some one or some team that a child has to overcome in order to "succeed" in sports – a lesson that carries over into our own lives as we grow into adults.  This book will definitely appeal to readers of all ages.

— Richard Lewis, Publisher of Educational Books in America

What they're saying about Hammie:

This book is a new and wonderful interest for children.  It makes you want to get out there and be just like Hammie.  It’s fun, entertaining, and keeps you occupied up to the very end when the true meaning of the story is revealed.

— Brooke Wigmore, author of My First Soccer Camp Away from Home

Our Family: December, 2006
What's it like in the daily life of a family of seven, including a dog and a cat?  Probably not a lot different than your routine, but with a slightly different twist when the family dog and cat tell their stories.
A unique story as told by members of the Wilson family as they go about their daily life in America.

What they're saying about Our Family:

Our Family is sure to delight with its tightly written story line and appealing narrative. Children just starting to read on their own will especially appreciate this book and its comfortable size, as the satisfaction of completing a book provides the confidence within themselves to reach for another. And if you’re looking for something new to read to your children as a family, look no further than Our Family.

— Keith Gouveia, author of Children of the Dragon, The Eternal Battle and soon to be released The Goblin Princess.
