Virginia Daffan Family Farm

When it was owned by the Daffan family, this farm was know as "Chamberland," but later it was named after the Lynn family and it is known today(1932) as the "Virginia Lynn Farm". It was located 1.5 miles southeast of Falmouth, VA, on Route 607; then .6 mile north on Route 218; then 1.7 miles northeast on Route 607; then .4 mile north on Route 626; then .4 mile north on Route 622; then 1.4 miles north on private road.

Mr. William Daffan was the owner in 1832. It was a rectangular frame structure with a gabled roof and the roof was covered originally with sihingles. The weatherboarding was plain. There were thirteen windows, four-twelve pane 12"x 14"; five-twelve pane 10" x 12", and four-four pane 10"x12". There was a one story porch, and the entrance was a four panel door.

There were six rooms, four large and two small, and a three flight stairway. The walls were plastered and a chair rail is around them. The doors have "H" hinges and plain locks. The planks are narrow and wide, not uniform. The mantels are plain and hand-made.

During the War between the States the Federals were camped on this farm and had a bakery located not very far from the house. The cooks would make up and bake a barrel of flour every day in bread for the soldiers.
