Ross Allen had plenty of personality. He was definitely one of a kind.
He had a laid back temperment and was not hyper like so many dogs are. He hardly ever barked,
unless I was purposely getting him "fired up" by playing with him.
He would also bark when he was surprised by someone pulling up outside and getting out of his
car. Even then, he didn't go berserk like many dogs do. He would bark a time or two, and that was it. It was
not unusual for him to go for days without barking even once.
You would not even know that Ross Allen was around most of the time, and I loved his quiet
nature.
Sense of Humor
Ross had a sense of humor. He loved to get something like a sock or anything that he was not supposed
to have and parade around in front of us. When we would pretend to be angry and tell him to give the item to us, he would
walk up to us as if he were going to let us have it. Then, when we would reach for whatever it was that he had, he would turn
his head at the last second and walk away. His eyes sparkled when we were playing that game, and he would play it as long
as any of us would participate.
Gentleness
My Puppy had a sweet and gentle nature. He loved everyone and every creature. I guess you could
say he was the Will Rogers of dogs; he never met a man he didn't like. Ross loved everyone, and everyone loved him. He always
put smiles on the faces of the children he met. Well, come to think of it, that was true for the adults that he met as well.
One of the stray cats that Dawn brought home after we already had Ross Allen had kittens, and we
let her keep them in the house. You should have seen the way Ross Allen interacted with those kittens! He brought his toys
to them when they barely had their eyes opened. He wanted to share. He licked them and carried them around by the backs of
their necks, like the momma cat would do. He never once hurt one of the kittens.
