Private John Frances Costa, 1941

John Frances Costa was inducted in the Army,  March 1941 as a Private stationed at Camp Edwards, a temporary city built to house European-bound soldiers before they‘re shipped overseas. At its peak, there are more than 2,000 barracks and warehouses. Approximately 250,000 troops pass through Camp Edwards during World War II. In 1941, Camp Edwards is the fifth largest military training area in the nation.

The first draft registration was held on 16 Oct 1940 for all men 21 to 36 years of age.
