Commemorating the
arrival of the Concord
on October 6th, 1683; Proclaimed by
President Reagan in 1987, PUBLIC LAW 100-104, further designated
October 6th as "National
German American Day" [Senate Joint Resolution 108] History of the founding of German American Day as October 6th. HOW SHOULD AMERICANS CELEBRATE THE 6th OF OCTOBER? by Hans Eberhard Declared by an Act of Congress as "National German American Day." How should German Americans celebrate their beginning on the North American continent? - Our question is a curious one. The answer to that question may resemble the punch line of an old story I have heard my children tell. The tale begins with this question, "Where does a 500 pound cat sleep?" The answer is, "Any place it wants to!" And "any way it wants to" this is the answer to our question. Because we are a free people, we must be given free reign in the conduct of our own celebration. |
