as I was hiking into the dunes, this pretty little butterfly landed on the path in front of me so that I could record its presence as one of the fauna living in the Kelso Dunes

keeping an eye on the beaten path can be helpful for not getting lost when one is already out of sight of the parking area and entry road to the Kelso Dunes area

there was still a lot of Dunes ahead when I decided it was time for me to turn around from my hike on November 16, 2005

the hike isn't all that strenuous but this was only 4.5 months after my heart attack, I was still carrying most of the excess weight which precipitated the proposed resignation of my heart from my employ, and my ticker advised me it was time to turn around

looking back toward the Kelbaker Road, those tiny buildings are what the major farming operation there looks like from where I got to on my Dunes hike and the row of matchsticks is the high voltage power transmission line near the roadway

this critter left only footprints far from any of the homesites at Kelso Dunes

not the creosote in bloom that I first thought driving on the corrugated washboard road
