I've been listening to old jazz standards and Al Caiola. I'm working on tightening up my web page, fixing spelling and punctuation and adding links and stuff. Now you can check my faves page to see what's in heavy rotation and sing along with Deacon Blues on the midi.

Ebay Jazz 8-Tracks Arrive!
One was a quadraphonic bootleg of Santana - Abraxas! Wonder if it will really be quad? I have been listening to Miles Davis - In Person Vol. I. Good stuff. I tried to change my blog, but I got mired down in html over my head and gave up. I wanted to put the 2XL pic as a repeating background outside the frame, but I could only get it everywhere

I wasn't as good as I was supposed to be. I bought some more 8-tracks after I was allegedly on an ebayatorium. They were only $15 including shipping, but I really didn't need them. I got all excited about Billy Strange and the Space Age Pop website. I wanted more. I bought a lot of 66 easy-listening 8-tracks which is a lot (groan). It doesn't say what the titles are, but you can bet I have most of them. 66! I am so stupid sometimes.

Billy Strange
So I painstakingly pulled the Billy Strange tape out of my player. I had to take it apart first. Then I respliced the tape back together and wound it back onto the spool. It got a little mangled, so I knew it wouldn't sound great, but it plays now and it is really cool. I never heard of Strange before. Turns out he's written tons of songs for other people that everyone knows, played guitar in a zillion people's bands, acted a lot too. I haven't found a list of his albums yet. This one is just a Best of. I want more. Where's my cheese alert thingy?

Good Day for 8-Tracks!
Today a guy I know who digs in the trash, brought me 16 8-tracks and a carousel holder. The spinner says 8-track Stowaway on it. The tapes are:
The Box Tops - Dimensions - (They cover "I Shall be Released".)
Charlie Byrd - Jazz Recital, featuring Byrd on Spanish guitar, Tom Newsom on flute and tenor(sic), Al Lucas on bass, and Bobby Donaldson on drums. Savoy mg-12099
The Chambers Brothers - A New Time-A New Day
Errol Garner - Plays Misty
Godspell - Musical - I have at least 5 of these already.
The Isley Brothers, Jerry Butler - The Impressions - Altone 1004
Tom Jones - It's not Unusual - Another one I don't need anymore of.
Gloria Lynne - Happy and in Love
Purlie - Original Broadway Cast
Lou Rawls - Too Much
Jimmy Smith - Winner's Circle - Another duplicate cart for me.
The Best of Billy Strange - This one is all wrapped around the capstan of one of my players now.
Gabor Szabo - Dreams Skye SK-80307
Gabor Szabo - 1969 - Cool '69 covers! Skye SK-80309
Dionne Warwick - Anyone Who Had a Heart - I'm not sure that I have this one already, but I have so many Dionne carts that it probably doesn't have anything new on it.
and a headcleaner tape from Telepac Compact Cartidge, very used up looking.

Someday I'll make a display of all the headcleaner tapes, so you can look at all the different kinds there were. I must have 30 or 40 different brands and designs.

When I got home, I also found that the Vintage Rock Boxed set I paid too much for on ebay had arrived. It's pretty nice. Not $15 nice, but the money is long gone and the 8-tracks are here and I like them. But they sure don't have "Dirty Water" by the Standells on them like Nuggets does. I want that song. It is the Red Sox Anthem that they play whenever they win at Fenway Park.

Now I have to try to get the tape out of the player intact.

Some 8-Tracks I want

These are up for sale on ebay. Ends tomorrow. Way too expensive for me to afford. It gave me a thrill even to see the butt-end of a P.I.L. 8-track. I stared at the picture many times, but cannot find any way to rationalize paying the price in my current financial circumstances. They are up to $110 with 12 hours to go.

T. Rex - Light of Love
Generation X
Stiffs Live
The Vibrators - Pure Mania
The Seeds - A Web Of Sound
Siouxie & The Bangees - The Scream
VH1 8 Track Flashback - Faked-up Promo Cart Label
Richard Hell - Blank Generation

The Stooges,
Public Image,Ltd. - Second Edition
Mink De Ville - Return to Magenta

The Specials
13th Floor Elevators
This one went for $110 all by itself. How can I compete with that?
The 13th Floor Elevators - Live
For one 8-track. I hope I never pay that much.

Sure enough...
I already have at least one of the Vintage Rock tapes. I found the volume 3 & 4 tape in only a cursory search of the museum. Ebay and 8-track enthusiasm often blindsides me. I want them all. This is a good collection of 60s hits, but Nuggets it ain't.
