Okay, today I did something very foolish. I went to the only place in Boston where you can get any amount of 8-tracks, In Your Ear. I got 24 8-tracks for $47. It was awful. They had so many. I was overwhelmed. I wanted everything. Here's what I got:
Booker T. and the MGs - Hip Hug-Her
Booker T. and the MGs - Soul Limbo
Buster Brown - Get Down With Buster Brown - King of the Blues
James Brown - Everybody's Doing the Hustle and Dead on the Double Bump
Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen - Tales From the Ozone
Eddie Harris - E. H. in the U. K.
Billie Holiday - The Billie Holiday Story
The Kinks - Celluloid Heroes
Gladys Knight and the Pips - Silk n' Soul
The Mar-Keys and Booker T. and the MGs - Back to Back
John Mayall - The Latest Edition
John Mayall - Ten Years Are Gone
Curtis Mayfield - His Early Years with the Impressions
Les McCann - Plays the Shampoo
Jack McDuff - Sophisticated Funk
Jimmy McGriif and Junior Parker - The Dude's Doin' Business
John McLaughlin, Al Dimeola and Paco De Lucia - Friday Night in San Francisco
Old and In the Way - ST
Procol Harum - Best of
Rush - Rush Archives Vol.I Rush/ Fly By Night
Rush - Rush Archives Vol.II Caress of Steel
Various Artists - Different Strokes - Johnny Winter, Elvin Bishop, Laura Nyro, Miles Davis.Tom Rush, etc.
Various Artists - Soul Sauce - Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, The Chi-Lites, Gladys Knight, etc.

That's the bunch. Good stuff. Were you counting? I got 2 copies of one album. A present for my friend David.

Merry Christmas! I got twelve 8-tracks for Xmas. Six I already have and six I don't.
The new awesome ones are:
El Chicano - Viva Tirado
Al Kooper, Steve Stills and Mike Bloomfield - Super Session (4-track)
Arlo Guthrie - Running Down the Road (4-track)
Three Dog Night - Suitable for Framing (4-track)
Soft Lights, Sweet Music 5 - A Columbia Musical Treasury (doesn't list artists - some classical)
Musical Moments with Mantovani - (sealed)

The ones I already have are:
Kim Carnes - Romance Dance
Ferrante and Teicher - Rocky and Other Knockouts
The Fifth Dimension - The Age of Aquarius
George Harrison - Extra Texture (Read All About It)
Herbie Mann - Discotheque
The Moody Blues - Seventh Sojourn

I'm extra psyched about the 4-tracks because I don't have very many and they cost more. They are all from my sweet girlfriend, Cathy.

Will this post come up as Xmas or Xmas eve? No matter. I have peeked under the tree and there are several suspiciously 8-tracky shaped packages! Oh I hope! My girlfriend may have gotten the message that it just ain't Xmas without 8-tracks.

Radio station commercial carts and cart decks.

My latest obsession is to acquire these carts that were used at all radio stations for the commercials and station identification promos and a player for them. They are apparently more like 4-tracks, having no internal pinch rollers. I have a line on several machines. Hopefully I can come up with one. I think the tapes are a different size than the 8-tracks. But any analog endless loop technology is welcome here at the 8-Track Museum.

Here's one. As you can see, it looks like a big sideways toaster.
