"The person behind the lyrics in my songs is the true reflection of who I really am." 16! Magazine, August, 1990, p. 18.
"I consider myself first asongwriter and then a singer. I got into the buisness as a songwriter before I decided to start singing myself." 16!'s Superstars Jan/Feb 1991. p. 58
On the music industry: "You have to try your best, put you heart and soul into a project. The sad thing is, music should not be something you do for a sale. It should really be a person's art, it should be for a person's self-gratification. At the same time, it is a profession so you have to understand what's going to sell and what people want to hear." Superteen July 1991, p. 70.
"My songs are written with old-fashioned melodies. With writing music, I think there's more to it than how technically great you are as a musician or how poetic you are. I think it's more a matter of taste - and mine is mainstream. I listen to a lot of pop music. The thing is to be able to weed through the good and the bad - that makes you a good songwriter." Superteen, September 1991 p. 71
"When the words that you're speaking- singing- are from the heart of the singer I think that there's something a little bit- very magical about that. I feel very proud that G-d gifted me with the talent to write." "I'll Be You Everything" compilation video from Warner/Reprise.
"I consider myself more of a songwriter then a singer. In other words, I think it's the song that's more important then the person who sings the song." Ibid.
"I'll sing a line and although the line may not be perfectly right, like the pitch may not be perfect, the feeling is there, the emotion is there, and you hear it in the song". Ibid.
On the video for "A Zillion Kisses": "There's a scene in the middle of the video and I"m with a girl and we start kissing and, um, my parents think it's a little out of hand, because we're kissing way too much, but Hey! What can I say? The song's called 'A Zillion Kisses', y'know?". Ibid. (Page owner's note: it's more like kissing as a prelude to um, shall we say less inocuous activities?)
"I'm not into one particular artist. I"m a song person and I do have favorite songs by other artists. For instance, 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters' by Simon and Garfunkel, 'The Long and Winding Road' by The Beatles. I just love classic songs," Ibid.
"A picture is a frozen captured moment in true life which means that if you see a picture of something, that has really happened, but a painting is anything you can dream up or imagine in your mind. And that's to do with the songs that I write. They're paintings, not pictures." Ibid.
