What's a Power Marketer?

Power marketers are business entities engaged in the buying and selling electricity, but typically do not own generation or transmission facilities. However, power marketers are not prohibited from owning such facilities as long as they can demonstrate a lack of market power. Power marketers, as opposed to brokers, take ownership of the electricity and are involved in interstate trade. These entities file with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for status as power marketers. TPCO is a power marketer, but also acts as a broker on occasion. In addition, TPCO provides marketing and other consulting services to independent power producers.
