About This Site
This web site is designed to provide supplemental information for the community college survey courses that I teach. You do not have to be a student in my course to view this site. I hope it is educational to other
people as well.
If you are a student in my course, you will be reading the textbook chapters on these assigned topics. The web pages that you can link to from here will help you to put the information in the textbook into a framework by
providing some general themes and highlights. I will notify you which materials should be read and when.
I welcome feedback on this material from my students or from fellow
history instructors.
The contents and
individual texts may be revised at any time. I will try to announce significant changes.
Browsers and Settings
All of the pages of this site are best viewed using Netscape Navigator with you PC set for 16 bit color or better. The site will work OK with 256 colors settings but it will not be as aesthetically pleasing. In addition, it is best to set your PC to 800 x 600 resolution. Some pages will look odd at other settings. Furthermore, 800 x 600 resolution will allow you to view more material at one glance (as it will with any web site).
If you are using a Windows 95 PC, you can set your resolution and color scheme as follows:
- Minimize all programs that are running and place your cursor somewhere in the open spaces of your desktop.
- Click on the right mouse button to bring up a "context menu."
- On the context menu, select "Properties" (that will bring up a dialog box that allows you to change many different visual settings for your computer).
- Select the tab labelled "Settings" (that will bring up a dialog box that allows you to change the number of colors and the pixel resolution for your monitor's display).
- Change the settings that you wish to change.
- Click "Apply" and then restart the computer.
(NOTE: In some Windows 95 versions, you do not have to restart the computer)
