Matthew 4:18-19 KJV

18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

This phrase "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men," is really a very powerful statement. For what Jesus is really saying here is…Follow me, and I will supernaturally cause you to become and accomplish something that you could not or would not be able to become, and accomplish, within your own ability or strength.

With this in mind, there are 3 things that I see about Jesus in this passage.

First: Jesus developed a relationship before He asks anything from people.

Jesus said, before I ask you anything, before I talk to you about the Cross or Commitment… I want to get to know you… so follow me.

Relationship always comes first. Jesus knows that if you love Him like you need to love Him, you won't love Him very long, before you will start doing things for Him. For there is no such thing, as uncommitted love.

God wants to develop a relationship with you, before having you do great things for Him.

Second: Jesus focused on the persons "Potential," not their position or their past.

Potential = potent power that can, but has not yet come into being; possible; latent; unrealized; undeveloped.

When Jesus said; "Follow me and I will make you…" He was not looking at the persons past failures, but a the persons powerful future. This is much different then what we see most people do today. For it is more common to see people look at another person, and judge them according to there past history, or knowledge of that person.

In other words, if someone has failed you or others in your past experience with them, you will attach a grade to that person. And on a scale of 1 to 10, with a 10 being the best score, because that person has failed you in the past, you will label them a 3.

And because they are a "3" in your mind, you will look at them like a 3… talk to them like a 3… treat them like a 3… and believe in them like a 3. You will not be able to trust them because they are a 3. And something they will never be in your eyes is a 4, 5 or 10, because to you, they are a 3.

Let us not deceive ourselves, this is called… "Judging Others," and everyone has done this before. But, we don't like to use the word "judgment", it sounds better to say we forgive that person, but we're just using "wisdom," just waiting to see a change first. When we truly forgive someone, they will be a 10 in our eyes. And manifestation of that forgiveness is when we can honestly look at them, talk to them, treat them, and believe in them as a 10.

God sees you as a 10. The word of God tells us that when we deserved to be loved least, that's when God loved us the most! And what God has done for us, shouldn't we do for others.

For He did not see us according to our past, but takes us right where we are, and says… "I have a powerful future for you".

Third: Jesus was the Master Fisherman and He wants us to be like Him.

"…Follow me and I will supernaturally make you into something that you cannot become by yourself.."

Luke 4:18-19 KJV speaks of the anointing of Jesus:

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

God sees your potential, and He wants to do a work in you and through you. He wants to anoint you with power! And make you a fisher of men.

God is calling to you today, and He is saying:

"Follow me…" Come spend time with me. I want to have a close relationship with you. Turn from your past, and see what I can cause you to be. If you would only get close to give you a new beginning. A new beginning with a powerful future. For I love you my child and I know all there is to know about you. And I still choose you this day. I am calling to you today, because to me… you are a precious! You are the best! Come follow me, and you will see that the best is yet to come for I will supernaturally make you into something that you cannot become by yourself."
