Republicans versus Dead Folks

Pasadena Star-News, 27 December 1997

In the lively, neverending battle between Republicans and dead people, the Republicans are winning every time! How proud they must be!

First there was Vince Foster, whose corpse was used and abused as a convenience by the "get Clinton" industry, comprised of far right lunatics, fruitcakes, and Rush Limbaugh, who still insinuate, after three investigations to the contrary, that Foster was murdered by the President and First Lady and propped up in a park by them with a gun placed in his hand. Then there's Ron Brown, the Commerce Secretary who died in the line of duty, but who is still available for service by Rush Limbaugh and his ditto heads who use him and his foibles to bash Clinton and the Democrats. And now there's Larry Lawrence, the ambassador of Switzerland who also died in the line of duty of a debilitating cancer. His widow has recently dug up his body from Arlington Cemetery because of the sanctimonious howling of House Republicans (a cadaverous bunch themselves) who are livid because they couldn't find reason to expel all of the non-military Democratic residents of Arlington who were planted since Clinton became President. Put Limbaugh in that group, too, since he was instrumental in stirring up a resentment that had nowhere else to go when the facts came in and the case fell through.

Of the many things to be thankful for in this season of joy, one of them is not being a Republican. I expect many must be hanging their heads at this latest manifestation by their spokespeople of the ultimate in sleazebag perversion: the practice of political necrophilia.
