CONGRATULATIONS to Brandon Haulk on his recent promotion to Shodan. Brandon has become our youngest black belt just one week before going off to college. Brandon's hard work and dedication earned him this spot among that unique group of individuals who have reached the rank of Shodan.
JAPAN TRIP: Sensei's Tony and Mary Anne recently made their 9th trip to Japan to train with Yamada Sensei. At 85 years of age, Yamada Sensei is very strong and his movement and techniques are as smooth and effective as ever! On this trip, 9 people went along with Orlando's. Besides training in the Sekiryukan (the oldest aikido/ judo dojo in Japan) our group traveled to the Budokan (an equally famous old dojo) and observed demonstrations of iaido (the drawing and cutting of the sword), kendo (Japanese fencing) and kyudo (Japanese archery). We also attended the Final Championship Sumo Tournament which crowned this year's Grand Champion!
CONGRATULATIONS !
Ralf Thompson and Scott Goodman were both promoted during our recent trip to Japan at the Sekiryukan dojo; the same dojo that Dr. Kano sensei taught judo, Tomiki sensei taught aikido and Yamada sensei currently teaches aikido. Mr. Thompson was promoted to Sandan (3rd degree black belt) and Mr. Goodman to Nidan (2nd degree black belt). Both men received a well deserved promotion due to their strength of character, dedication to the class and their expertise in the art.
