Parallel Paths

Today’s journey has been most decidedly excellent.

Due to some downed power lines, we have been forced to use an alternate route through much of Southwestern Connecticut. Despite significant delays (and the fact that I’m late to an appointment), I can’t complain, seeing as we’re getting to travel back to New Haven on the left side rather than the right.

Thus, for the first time ever in my long and hallowed history on Metro-North, I’m riding on the wrong side of the tracks (which is where I came from originally).

Needless to say, I’m enjoying it immensely. It’s like we’re driving in England, so I feel like I’m getting a free vacation!

It might not seem like such a big deal to you. But seriously - even though we’re only like ten feet away from the rail we’re supposed to be on, it’s an incredibly different perspective from the route I’ve taken so many times before. Even the seasoned commuters - especially them - are smiling.

It just goes to show how much of a big difference little things can make. And that even if you take a parallel path to the same destination, your journey can be vastly different.
