CIMARRON & TALL TIMBERS RR

Here are three photos of a display I built for myself from some spare parts of an old Building & Structure Co. Interlocking Tower kit.

A short time ago, I received a bag of wooden parts containing a B&S Co. Interlocking Tower kit. A quick look and count of the pieces showed that there might be enough components to make a complete structure. Since I didn't have any plans to use this tower on the layout, I decided to create a small display that I could use on my computer desk. The kit was assembled first, then painted later. I used acrylic paints and didn't have any problems with the wood swelling or warping.

I had to fabricate the this upper window. The original kit had a five panel window in the long side wall that was opposite the stairway, but some of the window sashes were missing. I used a scrap piece from the side wall component panels to fill in on each side and centered a new three panel window combination.
I tried a different technique to secure the ground cover. Instead of using the tried and proven mixture of white glue and water, I used clear/strippable wall paper paste. The first application was applied with a brush, then the stone/dirt mixture was poured on with a spoon. I lightly sprayed this mix with water and used an eye dropper to apply additional paste. A final application of ground cover material, topped off with Woodland Scenic ground foams completed the scenery.

I made the roof removable in case I ever decide to try to put the interlocking levers in place. A white metal smoke jack produced by Don Winter was epoxied in place and painted roof brown. When the paint was dry, I added a few brush strokes of my rust solution over the roof brown color.
