Solve
the Mystery of Writing Crime Novels
On
Wednesday, March 7, the Florida Writers Association Orlando Chapter hosts a presentation by mystery novelist, Thomas B. Cavanagh.
In Cavanagh’s darkly humorous novel, Head Games, ex-cop Mike Garrity sets out to find a missing Orlando-based boy band member with his constant companion,
his sidekick if you will, a brain tumor he’s named Bob. Based on the enthusiastic response to the novel from Library Journal, Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, and Booklist among
others, what started out as a one book deal with St. Martin’s Minotaur has been extended to two. This month, Head Games was selected as a "Killer Book" by the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association.
Tom Cavanagh is the Director of Online Course Design & Development at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He has also written and managed numerous multimedia programs and a number of award-winning children’s television
programs for Nickelodeon, the Disney Channel, and others. He has taught Digital Storytelling at Valencia Community College and Screenwriting at the Full Sail media school. He holds a PhD in Texts & Technology from the University of Central Florida.
What’s the secret to
coming up with a killer main character in mystery fiction? What kind of deal can you expect from a publisher? What does it
take to promote a novel? How can you find an agent? Get the answers to these and all your questions at FWA Orlando’s
March meeting.
Join us on Wednesday, March 7, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the University Club of Winter Park, located at 841 Park Ave. North. That’s on the corner of Park and Webster, just north of the heart of downtown
Winter Park. Come to the side entrance where
you’ll see the long ramp. The meeting is free and open to the public.
