Blount Masonic Council Works
with Blount County HFH
The BLOUNT MASONIC COUNCIL was formed in 1997 and was organized by Brother Carl
Reneau, Worshipful Master of Rockford Lodge #469 and Brother Larry Price, Past Master
of Rockford Lodge. The council consists of the officers and volunteer members of the
6 Blount County Masonic Lodges and Greenback Lodge #691 (Loudon County).
The purpose of the Council is to promote cooperative efforts among the Lodges to
improve Masonry's visilibity in the Blount County community and to promote the tenents
of the Vision 2013 Movement. The Council meets monthly for a Saturday morning Breakfast
meeting, and rotates its meetings among the 7 Lodges which comprise the Council.
The Council is actively promoting VISION 2013 projects. A Masonic family picnic
was held in August 1997. A float will be entered in several Blount County Christmas
parades. M. W. Grand Master John Palmer attended a BMC meeting and had high praise
for the brethren's efforts. He encouraged them to continue their outstanding work.
On Saturday July 26, Blount Masonic Council brethren spent a day as operative
builders working with Blount County HABITAT FOR HUMANITY. The brethren built a
storage shed, and had a great time and day of fellowship.

Blount County HABITAT for Humanity was founded in 1992 and has built 25
houses since that time. In February 1997, Blount County HFH recevied a $258,000
Federal Grant to prepare 28 home sites. Blount HFH was the first HABITAT affiliate
in the U.S. to receive a grant under a new HUD program, which was signed into
law by President Clinton in late 1996, and provided $25 million in grant money to
assist HABITAT affiliates across the U.S. Under the terms of the Grant, Blount
HFH must build the 28 houses over a 4 year period.
The first Blount County HFH house was sponsored by the First Baptist Church of
Maryville. A group may sponsor a house for a donation of approximately $9,000,
and must provide workers to construct the house. Other Blount County partners
include various churches, Bell South, The Telephone Pioneers, Aluminum Company of
America and Blount Memorial Hospital. The home sites are located in Clover Hill
Acres.
