Visual Development Of Toddlers

Toddler Vision Development
Two To Three Years
...    ...

At the age of two to three years a toddler should show much more interest in exploring their environment. They should be actively looking and listening to things occuring around them. Visual inspection may occur with or without touching an object. Simple noises and movement should stimulate visual inspection. At this age, a child should begin watching and imitating other individuals and reacting to familiar faces. The child should be capable of trying to identify pictures in books and scribbling or coloring on paper while watching their own hands.

Several things that can be done at home to help your toddler continue to successfully develop their visual skills and coordination include:

- Encourage walking and climbing activities both indoors and out.
- Provide materials for drawing and coloring activities
- Provide toys such as building blocks, puzzles, and balls.
- Provide size, shape, and color sorting activitites.
- Play games requiring object rolling, kicking, throwing, and catching.
- Use safe and comfortable bathroom products.
- Use adequate and comfortable lighting in the toddler's bedroom.
