Visual Development Of Infants

Infant Vision Development
Six To Eight Months
...    ...

At the age of six to eight months an infant's ability to accurately accommodate or focus their eyes at various distances should be completely developed and both eyes should focus equally. The child should continue to show more interest in watching distance objects. Their eyes should continue to become more mobile independent of head movement. At this age, the infant should also spend more time watching activities and objects around them including their hands, feet, food, bottle, and toys.

Several things that can be done at home to help your infant continue to successfully develop their visual skills include:

- Allow your child the freedom to crawl & explore.
- Provide stuffed animals and other toys with color & detail.
- Provide floating bath toys and other moving toys.
- Play games such as "patty cake" requiring hand-eye coordination.
- Play games such as "peek-a-boo" with toys or faces.
- Continue using only baby safe and comfortable bathroom products.
- Use adequate and comfortable lighting in the infant's bedroom.
