       Barra de Navidad - Manzanillo

Barra de Navidad is a small fishing village that is about 30 miles northwest of Manzanillo. There is a large lagoon that is entered through a narrow channel that has been dredged to about 13 feet at high tide. The town is on the north side of the lagoon and on the south side there is a 5 star hotel and the marina.

The marina at Barra is very modern and has all the amenities. The Grand Hotel (marina tenants have hotel privilages) is impressive. With incredible landscaping and decor, a challenging 18 hole golf course and superior service, it is a world class resort. Wish we could say the same about the food at the hotel's featured restaurant (very pricey and only so-so). We've met some new friends at the marina and enjoyed a great dock party.

The town of Barra is across the lagoon from the marina and reached by water taxis. Situated on a nice beach, it is a laid back place, not yet overrun by tourists. Our friends, Ric and Monika Sanders joined us in Barra and we experienced the delights of Mexican bureaucracy; an entire day spent acquiring a fishing license!
