Our next stop was at Tenacatita, a large
bay some 25 miles south of Cayeres. This is a great anchorage with a mangrove lagoon on the north side. We dinghied a long
way up the lagoon and fortunately didn't encounter any of the alligators the locals told us
about but saw a lot of different birds.

When we pulled in to anchor, a boat came up behind us that we hadn't
seen in about 5 years. "Free Spirit", owned by our friends
Steve and Olga Carnahan, has been cruising about a year. It was
great to catch up with all their cruising adventures! There was a
great little restaurant called Paris, owned by: you guessed it, a
French couple. It was converted from a house that had been built for
the TV show McHale's Navy. The food was very good and the owners
were very good to boaters. They would shop for and prepare any
kind of meal you might want on your boat. There is a very nice
resort named the Blue Bay in Tenacatita that caters to Europeans.
After a delightful week in Tenacatita we left for Barra de Navidad.
Outside our calm cove the breeze was about 25 knots and we finally
got to sail! When we arrived at Barra the breeze made entering the
narrow channel into the lagoon a little dicey so we hung out in a
small cove until the tide was high enough to enter the
channel.
