Lucas Mosley!
Hired Hand
On the day of the Flipside desert show (four days before we were to leave on a national tour) I got a call from a person named scott who said: "I hear that you're looking for a drummer." I asked who told him that and he named our current drummer, Mike McHugh! Gee, I guess he quit!
The only thing left to do was to go to the desert show anyway, and take a bunch of cat tranquilazers. In the midst of this drug induced haze, my brilliant idea was; "I'll call Lucas! He's the drum-maniac for the Tucson-based freak band The Pork Torta! Those guys are full-on rad! And he'll do it!" Sure enough, good ol' Lucas was ready to go! It didn't matter that we had never played with him before!
We next-day aired him a tape, then he flew to L.A. on a morning flight from Tucson. Three hours off the plane and we were playing a chaotic afternoon set at Al's BaR- (as recorded for the "Live at Al's" compilation #2) . Six hours later we were gigging at the 50 Bucks Gallery! We were off and running, but it took a long while before we were used to playing together, and actualy sounding like a band. It was around the last night of the tour, when we left him in Arizona...figures!
The big payback came this summer, when Lucas plulled into L.A. with his other band (for which he plays keyboards) "The Duarte 6". It was a Saturday afternoon and he called me saying "Our drummer just quit and you have to play with us tonight! You know you owe me!". The gig ended up being at Mogul's, in front of 200 people (we were opening for Crash Worship)... AAAHHHH! Payback's a bitch.
I told him "At least you got to hear a tape of our songs first!" and he said "Yeah, but I never even listened to it." ! More dirt and other info on Lucas coming up as this page develops.
