Mayonnaise= David Gomez, Greg K. & Toast
David Gomez was already the drummer for "Oiler" when we borrowed him, and continually insisted to everyone "I'm not a drummer!" He had previously been the bassist for Left Insane, and supported the Paper Tulips since he was just a kid from Gardena (and too young to get into bars!). We became friends, and eventually roommates at the infamous Bogle's Luggage in Long Beach. During that time, he graciously lent us his time and talents. David is a prolific songwriter, and has plenty of tunes to go around. We wrote so many songs with him that we had a whole seperate set, and called the band Mayonnaise. (Mayonnaise has oil in it..you know "Oiler" ! ...We had received a receipe in the mail for preparing and eating tulips with the white stuff... Mayo could be found playing gigs at the infamous Esther Space, the Chameleon in San Francisco, and whenever the Paper Tulips were between drummers. David is a pinch hitter! Mayonnaise was recorded, but never released...
David also played (bass) and recorded with the girly LongStocking. Today, he is playing keys with the popular group SlowRider and working in the mailroom at Epitaph Records. When I asked him if he (might be the only one who ever) saw us with every drummer, he laughed "Yes, I think I replaced each of them at one time or another!"
