Cold Spring Knob section of the AT (Smokies)  -- Touring the upper reaches of Walker Valley (Tremont) via Cold Spring Knob on the AT - Accessed via Middle Prong, Lynn Camp Prong, Miry Ridge & Greenbrier Ridge Trails.  11/9/08

This 2.4 mile long interior segment of the Appalachian Trail (AT) was one not previously hiked by my friend Janice and was the object of our 21 mile hike Sunday, 11/9/08.  Yeah, you read that right, 21 miles of hiking to do a 2.4 mile section of trail.  Such is a typical itinerary for those of us who decide after a few years (is 25 years a few?) of hiking in the Smokies that we are going to hike all of the trails in the Smokies!  Photos.

Highlights of this hike:
  • Fallen leaves atop and along the waters of Middle Prong (lots of nice waterfalls on Middle Prong)
  • The "slide" back into the cellar for Lynn Camp Prong trail
  • Cresting Cold Spring Knob on the AT
  • Sneak peak at hidden Indian Flats Falls
