Kansas Seeks To Lower National IQ. Again.

Pity the K-12 students of Kansas. They are being re-educated to suit the desires of conservative "Christian" fundamentalists. Since "conservative" is generally regarded as the opposite of "liberal" (as in a well-rounded, liberal education), then you know they are being shortchanged by the Kansas State School Board's decision to change the definition of "science" to include supernatural explanations for, well, anything that science cannot explain thoroughly and completely. Considering we are constantly learning new things every day, that encompasses quite a lot.

It is ridiculous to attribute mythological tales with scientific reasearch and give then equal consideration unless science can prove a thing beyond any doubt. Kansas students will look at an unexplained phenomenon and instead of trying to figure out an explanation, they will simply shrug and say God wills it so it is that way.

But of course the conservatives only regard supernatural explanations as legitimate as long as they are CHRISTIAN supernatural explanations. Let's face it, if you're going to abandon science and open scientific inquiry up to religious mythology, you might as well give equal weight to creation myths from all religions. Prometheus created man, and Zeus created woman (in the form of Pandora) and gave her the box which he forebade her to open, knowing full well that she would. So even in Greek mythology, woman gets all the blame for the ills of the world. That ought to make the "Christian" fundamentalists happy, since it still hammers women.

And that's just one of the craetion myths I am aware of. I'm sure there are creation tales from Hindu and all other religions. If we're going to open ourselves to all possibilities, as the Kansas State School Board apologists declare is their goal, then surely we must embrace ALL supernatural explanations. Right?
