Lies, Damned Lies, and Bush Administration Press Conferences
In the sharpest White House attack yet on critics of the Iraq war, Vice President Dick Cheney said on Wednesday that accusations the Bush administration manipulated intelligence to justify the war were a "dishonest and reprehensible" political ploy.
Cheney called Democrats "opportunists" who were peddling "cynical and pernicious falsehoods" to gain political advantage while U.S. soldiers died in Iraq.
You know how you can tell that Dick Cheney is lying? His lips are moving.
In an effort to turn around the dismal performance of the Bush administration with regard to the Iraq war, the vice president has boldly resorted to name-calling. Obviously he is greatly angered because the Democrats are pointing out every little mistake, lie and misleading statement the Bush administration has made over the last four years and that's just dirty politics.
In fact, revealing the shady dealings of the Bush administration is undermining the global war on terrorism! It is undermining the war effort in Iraq! It is causing the breast milk in young mothers to dry up and turn sour! Oh my God, how can those horrible Democrats LIVE with themselves for resorting to telling the truth?
Okay, that's enough. Bush administration Republicans have engaged in some of the dirtiest political maneuvers I've seen in my lifetime. I personally don't think calling the president to account for his lies and blunders is "politics" so much as, well, ACCOUNTABILITY. The vice president can fume as much as he wants to. The president can agree with him as much as he wants to. But the American people, thankfully, can only be bullshitted for so long until they start to smell the stick and decide it is an unpleasant circumstance they find themselves in. And it is about damn time.
