Dallas J. Bryant - 2008

                                  Jungians

They tell us in books
what it supposedly means,
those things of our dreams.

You were there, combing your hair,
sitting against the side of the house.
I saw you from the attic window.

You were hidden behind the frond,
watching me dog paddle
through the pond.
I was looking for frogs.

You were there at the bus stop.
Wearing that flimsy halter top
when the pony-tailed guy walked by.

We were writing something in the dirt
in the ditch, scratching with long sticks.
You were laughing, heartily.

Why do the books tell me
the mud on your face
means you're hiding something?

Why can't it be
that those things of my dreams
are simply
those things of my dreams?
