I am a native of Iowa, from the town of Missouri Valley in southwest Iowa, north of Omaha/Council Bluffs. I have a BS in Math and Physics from Iowa State and an MS in Computer Science from Purdue. I am currently a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Lucent Technologies.

I'm married to Ellen, also a native of Missouri Valley. She is a Registered Nurse working for Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital.

We have four children:

• Kalen (24) is attending Illinois State University, majoring in Political Science. She has an associates degree from the College of DuPage and certificate as a Library Technical Assisant.
• Kathy (22) also attends Illinois State, studying Early Childhood Education.
• Matthew (21) attends the University of Illinois, majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science.
• Ryan (19) attends Illinois State, majoring in Business, with a likely emphasis in Business Information Systems.

My chief hobbies are reading and collecting comic books, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and watching baseball (I'm a die-hard Cubs fan).
