An IO-540 Overhaul

Local EAA Tech Counselor (and retired Navy O-6 figther pilot, A&P, IA, flight advisor, A&P school instructor, Mooney expert, homebuilder, author, etc., etc.) Dick Koehler offered to teach me how to overhaul an engine. Dick is shown here on the right, accepting the Bax Seat award from Flying Magazine at Oshkosh 2005.

We found an old, tired IO-540 and commenced the overhaul.

I bought a hoist and load leveler from Harbor Freight for about $200. It was a great investment. We've been able to completely tear the engine down using just the hoist and the wooden pallet.
