Canopy Photos

The canopy installation was the most frightening work to date, but help from my Grandfather made it a lot easier.  I found the instructions from Vans for the slider canopy to be quite poor.  James Cone (jamescone@aol.com) published a very high quality newsletter which contained very good instructions for installing the sliding canopy.  Because several builders have asked for them, I've included the relevant pages here.

After attaching the roll bar and much bending of the frame we lifted the canopy on to the fuselage.  Doesn't look quite right, does it?  (It's on backwards)

Drilling canopy to frame (75 degrees minimum, using modified drill bits)

Final drilling (side skirts)

Fiberglass fairing for windshield.  Brown stuff is Microlight mixed with epoxy to fill in depressions in the fairing.
