Comment: Why do mommy and daddy fight?
Answer: All people disagree from time to time, but sometimes fights get really bad. If parents’ fights worry children, they might find useful ideas on the Help for Kids page on this site, especially, in the "Dealing with Fighting" and "What Some Children Do" sections. Some schools have counselors and books that might also be helpful.

Comment: I see my Grandma Carolyn left you a comment also. I plan to borrow the book from her, but it sounds as if she is peddling your book to everyone! It was nice to hear your story about the old school house. I grew up in Hader, very close to the school. I will have to ask Grandma what the games Prisoner's Base, Stealing Sticks and Fox & Geese involve... :-)
Answer: Your grandmother is so kind. She is the one who sent me the photo of our old country school.

I have only read the prelude on your site and my first impressions were, "Great to read someone expressing the heartache a child would feel in this sort of situation". You obviously have a passion to write this way and for good reason. Thank God for the written word!

Comment: My husband and I both enjoyed reading your book "Hold On Jessica Don't Let Go. I grew up close to where you lived in Minnesota and went to the same church. You are a gifted writer. My friend, Carolyn, gave me the book and wanted it put in our church library. I know it will be read by many. It was so interesting to read about you in the back of the book "About the Author". Keep writing.

Comment: Hi Deanna, I went to that one room school house with you in rural Minnesota and I am so proud of you. I saw that you were back for your class reunion and I just had to see if I could find anything about you on the internet and was I surprised as this is all news to me. I'll be going to Barnes and Nobel soon to find the "Hold on, Jessica" book.
Answer: What a wonderful surprise to hear from you! If you want, send your email address. It won't be posted. Please include your last name again so I'll know it's really from you. :)

Comment: My grandson is 9 years old. His father is a full blown alcoholic. I think [his mother] is ... also addicted to some drug... She discovered my son in law's drug paraphenelia in their house. I see the effects of this on our loving little boy, and so does my husband, his grandfather. Please someone, help us to help our grandson and his sister who is 7. My husband is a police officer and he is scared to deal with it.
Answer: The safety and well-being of children should be our first priority. You might discuss the situation with a counselor or a trusted pastor, who can advise you as well as suggest resources available in your community. You might also visit Al-Anon at http://www.al-anon.alateen.org. Al-Anon is dedicated to helping people who are concerned about the excessive drinking of family members or friends. Click on link for helpful materials, List of Al-Anon booklets. Best wishes and don't give up!

Comment: Is there any library that has this book because i really want to read it.

Comments: I love the way you relate to the children. After reading Jessica, I gave it to my eleven year old niece to read. She is more compassionate and patient with her peers, because she now knows that they may be "mean" because they may have some problems with their parents. This revelation has changed her social life tremendously. Thank you for writing the book.

Comments: I appeal to your generosity to donate some books (even if they are second-hand), so I can help my city's children and youth learn foreign languages. My GLOWINSKIS' LIBRARY is the first and only library its size in Poland - and in Europe, too. It came into existence without money and is free to borrowers.

Comments: We are trying to provide age and content appropriate books (also posters, pictures, etc) for the poorest and most at risk children of Washington, DC. These books will be donated to the elementary school libraries as well as to the individual children. Your gift could forever change a child's future. The good your gift could do may change a life.

Comments: "Jessica" was very enjoyable. It definitely gives hope to the children who find themselves in the same situation. I love how you explained that her father probably hated what he'd become and was ashamed, but just couldn't stop himself. Hooray for Jessica, she looks to the future, and realizes she can break away from the past and begin anew. All the best with your writing. You have a clear understanding of young people's feelings.

Comments: I loved your book. I love all your books. You should be the most famous children's author of them all. Move over, Roald Dahl.

2.When did you start reading books?

Comments: Deanna is a wonderful writer, full of insights into children's lives, able to entertain while she plants insights into young readers' minds. Her writing is a fabulous replacement for what comes in on television, and she has many important and relevant messages for her audiences of children and young adults. Her style isn't similar, but I see marks of her being an S. E. Hinton ("The Outsiders") of her time, unafraid to tackle big issues or to write stories in which bad things can happen.

Comments: Read the whole book last night and was moved by the process Jessica experienced. Would like to know what happened to her in the remaining of her life. The story suggests great things ahead, or does she do the regular things really well? How does this affect the way she deals with the future curves life throws? Lovely young lady.
