Some of these books have even won big awards, but that's not why they're listed here. They're here just because I like them. They touched my heart, my soul, or my funny bone.

Maybe you will like them, too. I plan to add to this list as I remember and discover more special books.

Lassie, Come Home by Eric Knight	3rd-6th	This was my absolute favorite book when I was in third grade. For people who like animals and adventure.
S.O.R. Losers by Avi	3rd-7th	Warning: This is funny.
Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott OíDell	4th-7th	Based on real life. A girl is accidentally left stranded on an island all by herself.
Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse	7th, up	Story of a teen during the dust bowl. The fine writing makes this book especially wonderful.
Fresh Girl by Jaïra Placide	7th, up	Coming to America and trying to fit in, this girl sometimes seems "fresh" to her family. She also must deal with painful secret memories.
My Grandma's House by Erick Tiddle	all ages	This book is especially dear to my heart. A ten-year-old boy describes his grandmother's home and the fun he has there.
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein	all ages	A picture of life. Touching, insightful, and just a little sad.
