Retirement is Great at the Lake!

Frank & Linda, Happy as Clams

We retired to this beautiful area of northeastern Oklahoma (often referred to as "Green Country") in August of 1995.  Since then, we have spent many hours laboring on our 18 acres of beautiful wooded land.  We are within walking distance of the lake, and in fact have logged well over 1,500 miles of walking since we've been here.

We hope you will enjoy these pictures we have taken over the years of our little cottage in the woods.

This is just one of the hundreds of pictures we have taken of the lake.  Every day is a different day at the lake, and each day the lake has a difference face.  We have been so privileged to witness so many beautiful sunrises and so many examples of wildlife.  We are thankful every day for these blessings.

And, Here's the lake again - showing one of its many beautiful faces.  Lake Tenkiller is probably the best-kept secret in Oklahoma.  It's off the beaten path, nestled in the Cookson Hills, which are as beautiful as the Ozark Mountains.  The lake is hardly ever crowded.  Tenkiller is a clean and clear lake, frequented by scuba divers.  It is truly a wonderful place to live.

Our Home in the Winter

Oh yes, it gets pretty cold in the winter and we have had our share of snow.  When you are retired, you don't really mind getting snowed in.  However, this being Oklahoma, we know that the snow will be gone in a couple of days.

The following pictures show our "Yarden" (yard/garden) taken throughout the years in various stages of bloom.

Angelina and her many friends

Angelina is my beautiful garden angel and is the focal point of my garden.  She sits in the center, surrounded by a managerie of garden animals and beautiful plants.

Another feature of my garden is my gazing ball.  I painted the pedestal myself.  We have certainly enjoyed gazing at it.  The picture below shows it in all its glory.

Here is one of my most favorite places to sit and meditate.  The garden patio is shady, quiet and peaceful.  I can look at Angelina, the gazing ball, and all the little animals - not to mention the beautiful flowers.  I have spent a lot of time and effort in establishing my garden area, and now I can enjoy it whenever I wish.

Here's a nice picture of our lawn.  This is only a small part of it.  Luckily I have a riding lawnmower to keep it mowed.

And, what good is all this greenery without some beautiful deer to munch on it!  Here is a mama deer with her new babies.  This is a frequent sight around our house.  The deer roam freely and love to graze in our back yard.

Last, but not least, these are pictures of our deck.  Frank and I built this deck together, and I think it is wonderful.  One picture was taken during a summer late afternoon.  The other was taken after a winter snowfall.

You will notice that the deck is two levels and has a circular shape on both levels.  It was Frank's design and a lot of work went into making it so beautiful.  We really enjoy sitting out there and enjoying the serenely quiet surroundings.

That's all for now.  Hope you have enjoyed your little tour of our beautiful "Heaven In The Hills."
