MY HEART BELONGS
TO A
PEKINGESE!
A feisty little Pekingese,
With eyes to melt your heart--
A fuzzy little charmer
That I loved right from the start
Intelligent and loyal--
A joy to have around,
My Pekingese can make me smile
Whenever I am down.
Sitting quietly on my lap,
Or sharing fun outside--
I can't imagine life
Without my "Peke" right by my side.

The Legend of the Lion
and the Marmoset
Legend has it that there was once a great Lion
King who was brave and fearless, but also merciful and kind. He ruled his land with gentle paws, and all who knew him,
loved him.
One day he met a beautiful little Marmoset, who
looked up at him with her large, beautiful brown eyes. A strange thing happened to the Lion King. He had never
seen such beautiful brown eyes, and he fell deeply in love with the tiny Marmoset.
The great Lion King wanted the beautiful Marmoset
to live with him, so he petitioned the gods to make him small enough to be with his love, yet still retain his brave heart
and lion-sized nobility.
The gods granted him his wish, for, you see, the
offspring of the little Marmoset and the great Lion King are what we now know as the Pekingese - a dog with the size and face
of the little monkey and the mane and heart of a lion - the Lion Dog!

How do I love my Pekingese? Let me count the ways!
Our sweet and adorable Pekingese are bundles
of joy and more fun than a barrel of monkeys. They are simply bursting with love and adoration for the members
of our family. They are playful, loveable, and love to show off.
They certainly have a mind of their own, demonstrating
a certain amount of stubbornness and haughtiness, and cat-like behavior. They don't always come to us when we call them,
but just let us leave the room and then return, and they give us the royal greeting!
They are good watchdogs and will alert us to any approaching
strangers, but they do not bark unless there is something to bark at! Our Pekes are quite dismayed by the fact that
the deer passing through our backyard don't take their barking seriously!
Don't be fooled by their small size. A Pekingese
is very brave, probably foolishly so, and rarely backs down from another animal regardless of size.
A Peke is the ultimate lap dog. They love to sit
in your lap or they are happy to just be near you. A Peke will gaze into your eyes as if trying to figure out what you
are thinking or how you are feeling. And once you have looked into their eyes and realized the human quality of their
face, you will be hooked on Pekes forever!
