When Chris was very young he went to early intervention at Sewell
Child Development Center and then to the JFK program at the University Health Sciences Center and was part of a group of kids
who helped Dr. Sally Rodgers develop the Denver Model. He says he mostly remembers the cherrios and goldfish to eat and play
with. Some of his friends from there he still sees.
Chris wanted to go to his home school for Kindergarten, but that didn't work out(long story)so he went to Fairview Elementary
for 2 years. He then started at Bromwell Elemtary School in his neighborhood and went there through 5th grade. He still has
lots of friends from "my awsome days at Bromwell" and he often sees them at events when selling his shirts.
He then attended PS1 , a charter school, for middle and high school. He had a lot of great times at the school but his trip
to Ireland with many friends was a definate highpoint and something that not many kids get to do, especially students
with autism. He graduated with his class in May, 2003 and stayed connected to the school through transition to his self-employment
career as a writer. In his last year he assisted in teaching a class and hopes to teach in some capacity in the future. PS1 was
and is a great place for all kids.
Lots of people ask Chris and his parents how it was to be included in school. There
were times when things got crazy, but that was usually when teachers or staff didn't understand what Chris needed. Things
usually got worked out over time. Communication is a big thing.
Chris has lived in his house since Fall of
2005. He has had a number of great people that have lived with him and he has met many new people and friends. His
current family consist of Bob, Troy and their dog, Buddy. It will be a great year with them. Yet,
that is one of the hard parts of life is that so many people move on in Chris's life.
Chris's house is right on the bus line, near Washington Park, the bike path and close to all the places he
likes to go. He operates Lopsided Heart Creations out of the house and has a room filled with t-shirts and all
the things to make the business run.
By the way, Chris has big blue eyes, blond curly hair, a great laugh and autism.
Chris really would like to hear from his old and new friends so just send him an email. or stop by.
Article about inclusion and Chris's experience that was on the front page of The Denver Post by Eric Hubler, February 17,
2003.
