First impressions are vital and are difficult to change, and how you handle the written language is often your first introduction
to teachers, employers and co-workers. Effective writing for academic, science or professional situations requires an understanding
of the basics of English grammar and sentence structure. Classes will focus on learning the grammar and vocabulary which give
you the tools and information you need to improve your academic and professional writing skills.
This course will cover "Verbs & Verbals" (agreement, principle parts, gerunds, participle, etc.), "Sentence
Structure" (parallelism, fragments & run-ons, clause construction, modifiers, etc.) "Pronouns" (agreement,
antecedents, pronoun shift, etc.), and "Vocabulary" (similar words, comparatives & superlatives, idioms, etc.)
