The Scarlet Pen offers two services:
Proofreading is for documents in their near-final forms, which have already gone through several drafts and need one last check for mistakes in spelling, grammar, usage, and punctuation. Editing includes all the elements of proofreading, as well as suggestions for improving concision, consistency, and coherence, with occasional rewriting for clarity. If you are unsure which service you need, please see my Samples for examples of both—or send me a portion of your work and I'll be happy to recommend one or the other. |
Rates and Time Frames
| For short pieces, my rates are as follows: Proofreading: 1 cent per word. Documents of up to 6000 words (about twenty double-spaced pages) will be returned within 24 hours; each additional 6000 words will take an additional 24 hours. To calculate your cost, multiply the number of words by .01: 300 words x .01 = $3.00 Editing: 1.5 cents per word. Documents of up to 3000 words (about ten double-spaced pages) will be returned within 24 hours; each additional 3000 words will take an additional 24 hours. To calculate your cost, multiply the number of words by .015: 300 words x .015 = $4.50 Rush orders are often available; please let me know when you need the work finished and I'll quote you a price. There is neither a minimum length nor a minimum charge. |
