Oratio ante colligationem
Prayer Before Connecting to the Internet

The prayer below was recently composed and seeks the intercession and protection of St. Isidore of Seville (560-636) while on the Internet. It was apparently composed in Barcelona Spain at the Observation Service for Internet, which has proposed St. Isidore as the Patron saint of the Internet. OSI feels that St. Isidore is a logical choice since he wrote Etymologies, which is a sort of dictionary and database.

Contrary to some press reports that have been circulating, nothing formal has been issued from the Vatican. Several other saints have been proposed by other groups as well.

ALMIGHTY and eternal God, who hast created us in Thy image and bade us to seek after all that is good, true and beautiful, especially in the divine person of Thy only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee that, through the intercession of Saint Isidore, bishop and doctor, during our journeys through the internet, we will direct our hands and eyes only to that which is pleasing to Thee and treat with charity and patience all those souls whom we encounter.
Per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
