St. Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church |
St. Augustine of Hippo (354 - 430) is one of the four great Fathers and Doctors of the Latin Church. He was born at Tagaste (now Souk-Ahras in Algeria) on 13 November, 354. His father was a pagan at the time while his mother, St Monica, was a Christian. Through St Monica's example, St Augustine's father eventually converted before he died in 371. |
