A Guide to Special Fishing Spawns (Swirls?) in the World of Warcraft

The majority of this page was contributed by Pleather of the Stormreaver server.  The original forum post is located here, but they disappear sometimes, so I've captured the information temporarily (at least) just in case.

Ok here are the fish "nodes" or schools. They appear as swirls in the ocean, lakes and rivers of WoW. Cast your bobber inside (or at least on the edge) of the swirl to get a better chance at catching the fish type. My preliminary reports show it's around a 75% catch rate with various other items possible to catch in the swirls.

Other things that I have caught are the bloated mightfish (has a gem inside), stranglekelp, message in a bottle (sometimes has a green pattern/white pattern) and a few other random items.

Patch of Elemental Water

This Patch of Elemental Water is found along the far far east coast of Azshara. Appears to be a fairly rare spawn. They give elemental water, globes of water and essences of water, that we've found.

Here are the coordinates found so far. You can see these coordinates with a number of different addons. The one I use is CT Map Mod. Thanks to all those that helped find these. Post your others at the bottom. :P

Floating Debris / Trunks

These trunks are found at the floating debris piles you'll see spawn randomly with the swirls. Now these are not considered rare but their loots will range on the mob level of the zone. Regular boxes, Iron and Mithril are in order of zone level. I have caught a blue pattern in one of the Mithril chests. Usually they give potions, leather, cloth and a chance at a green. There is also a bloated might fish that is much like fishing used to be, as the fish usually houses a random gem.
