NEW COMMANDS YOU MIGHT
LIKE TO KNOW ABOUTPlease note that this is not a complete listing of commands, just highlights of ones you will need to know soon. Check the help files on the commands you see in the wizhelp listing... Some of the commands you won't get right away, but most are ones that you can expect to get as soon as you learn your way around.
Also, see the end of this document for a few rules that you'll need to abide by.
WIZHELP
Lists all commands that you can have access to (for the most part) at your level. Read through them, and read the help files on them.
NOTE: some commands will be available only when you have editing access to an area, so if you try to read the help file on a command and can't it's most likely a builder command that you will need a little later.
AT
at <location> <action>Allows you to perform a command at another location. <location> can be a vnum or a person or a mob or some locations (shire for example, but you should be sure of where it is before you use a location in the command, because it's not always where you think it is... and with mobs, if there are more than one, you won't always know which one you're at).
Try some of these out on imms nearby. Keep in mind that mortals can often see what you do at the location, in case you are trying to keep quiet...if you're invis, they shouldn't see you though.
at thalen look (shows you who/what/where at the location of thalen)
at thalen look thalen (looks at the person without actually going to the
spot...they will see you look at them as though you were in the room with
them, unless you're wizinvis)
at thalen poke thalen
at thalen give 1000000 coins thalen (to give something to someone without actually going there....again, they will see you do this)There are a lot of uses for this, use your imagination.
GOTO
goto <person|vnum|city|mob>Moves you into the room with the location you specify. Your bamfout will be displayed in the room you leave, and your bamfin will be displayed in the room you go to, if you are visible to the people in the room. (see the invis and the bamfin and bamfout commands on that).
See the note in 'at' about the use of mobs and locations for this command.
Some useful vnums
80 - jail
16 - Battle prep room
17 - Battle recall spot
18-45 - other battle rooms
9 - Imm conference room (where we hold weekly (?) meetings)
1200 - chat room (alternate conference room)
TRANSFER
Transfer <name|mob> <name|mob|city|vnum>This moves the player or mob. If no location is given, the transfer will be to the room you are in at the time. The destination can be a room number (transfer questor 80), a mob (transfer questor tyr), a city or a vnum. See the note about mob and city use as targets in the 'at' command. And NEVER transfer any player named All :)
Be careful here. Once you get the hang of it, you'll hardly ever get a player killed...but it's happened a lot in the past. Best practice is to trans players to you (and only when you need to, obviously), making sure that there are no aggro mobs in the room or too close nearby, or use a vnum that you're sure doesn't have aggros nearby. Also, if an area is closed and the security is set higher than the level of the player you're transferring in, they won't be moved.
PARDON
pardon <name> <killer|thief>Removes the KILLER or THIEF flag that the player gets for whatever reason. Remember to find out if the flag SHOULD be removed before you do it. Very common for one of the last two players in a battle to get a killer flag, if you run battles, watch for this.
This is a rare thing now, as the code pretty much prevents players from stealing from or killing other players, but in case we missed something...
MODIFY
modify <object>Allows you to rename objects. Feel free to outfit yourself with new equipment and make it look like you want. The command is interactive after you type it, just follow the prompts. You will modify the short and long descriptions as well as the keywords, and the original ones will be displayed for you so you know what you are looking at. This command needs to be done in the presence of a shopkeeper, but please don't make that obvious to mortals. If you want to, have another imm load a shopkeeper in your room for you.
One point to remember - if you want to keep the description as it was, you need to type in the whole description again - if you just hit return, it will enter a blank there. This goes for the keywords as well - if you don't type in a keyword, the object won't have one, making it tough to drop, wear, etc. Practice this once or twice before you try it on important stuff.
Object renaming is a prize we may give to mortals in exchange for trivia points. For purposes of keeping track of what mortal has what objects, remember to put the original keywords back, as well as any new ones that seem appropriate. You don't need to do this with your own stuff, and in fact some feel it is best not to, so players can't locate your equipment when you are invis.
WHOIS
whois <name>Same as before, but now the site number of the player is displayed as well.
SITE
site <site_name>Lists all the characters logged in from a site name you give. The whole site name does not need to be given, but all characters with a site containing the one you type will be displayed. Type site earthlink for an example, that lists all characters logged in from there at this time. This is mostly used to check for multiplaying, but it can have other applications, especially if you can look up the site to see where the player logs in from (finger, etc.). See a higher imm (or myself) about what is possible in that respect.
LOGINS
LOGINS <player|site>Gives a list of all the locations a player has logged in from, or all the players that have logged in from a given site. Has several uses in checking the identity of a player and in checking for multiplay...play with it a little to see what you can figure out.
USERS
This command lists the people currently logged in. It also shows their site, as well as their user name if the software can resolve it. Use this to double check if you see two people on from the same site when checking for multiplaying.
Please note...just because two players don't have the same account name and/or login site doesn't mean they aren't multiplaying...there are ways around that. When in doubt, watch, and ask other's opinions. Often, if you pay attention, the person multiplaying will give it away somehow. And, often you will see two or more different people logging in from the same site...and possibly even from the same account name, although this is not common.
AUCTION
CONFISQUESame as the old command, but now the player who auctioned the item is shown (seller), along with the last person who bet on the item (buyer). The command 'confisque' is used to stop an auction and put the item in your inventory, although this should rarely be done.
RSTAT
rstat <vnum>Rstat lists the coding that is present in the room. If no vnum is given, it defaults to the room you do the command in. This is useful to see what flags are present in the room, amongst other things (such as the keywords to all the objects present in the room). See a more experienced imm for a detailed explanation.
(Lists of room and other codes can be found with the flist command.)
HOLYLIGHT
This command toggles your holylight flag, which gives you perfect vision, allowing you to see invis, hidden, chameleon, etc. You will usually have this on unless you want to check what a mortal might see. (keep in mind that your class and equipment still modify your vision even when this is toggled off).
INVIS
invis <level>You can make yourself wizinvisible to certain levels with this command. Verify your status by typing 'score' to make sure until you are familiar with the command. You can never make yourself invis to an imm who is your level or higher, but you can be invis to lower imms. If you type 'invis 99' you will be visible to everyone level 99 and higher.
WAKE
wake <name>Like the mortal command, but you will occasionally get players who find themselves 'dead' after a battle and who can't do anything but pray. Waking them will revive them from this state. Very useful with the 'at' command for a quick awakening, as you will learn (at worfer wake worfer).
WIZINFO
Wizinfo is a channel that displays extra information that can be useful in keeping an eye on the mud. It can also at times be rather distracting....you change the status of it with 'wizinfo <channel>' or wizinfo '<none|all>'. NOTE: wizinfo none will turn off the pray channel, but you can't turn that one on by itself...you need to type wizinfo all to get it back...and we'd like it if you could leave the pray channel on unless you have need to turn it off temporarily.
Typing wizinfo will display what channels you currently have on. To see what all is available, type wizinfo all, then wizinfo.
BAMFIN
BAMFOUTbamfin <text>
bamfout <text>This command changes what the people in the room see when you use the goto command. Bamfin is the display message when you enter a room, bamfout the one when you leave a room. The mud will display exactly what you enter here, so if you want your name as part of the display, put it in yourself. Typing bamfin or bamfout alone will display what you've entered.
Note: This only works if you are visible to whoever is in the room.
RFIND
rfind <word>Looks across the mud for a room with that in the name (more or less) and displays all that it finds. The vnum of the room will be displayed, and you can then use goto to go to that room if you need. There are equivalent commands for mobs (mfind) and objects (ofind)...the level of these commands I believe is rather higher though.
ECHO
echo <text>Broadcasts a message to all players on the mud. Useful at times, use sparingly.
OSTAT
ostat <object>A more complete listing of what the object does. More complete than the identify spell, but more confusing too. Both of these commands are useful in different situation. The room equivalent of this command (rstat) has been explained above, and the mob equivalent (mstat) works the same way.
BATTLE
UNBATTLEbattle <lower_level> <upper_level>
battle <player_name>
unbattle <player_name>
battle 0 0
battle chat <text_to_be_displayed>To begin a battle, type battle and the levels ('battle 1 100'). Battles are closed by typing 'battle 0 0' (zero zero).
Take care not to open a battle when one is already going on, as the results are odd and not altogether pleasing.
Players (including yourself) can be forced into a battle, even if the battle is not in their range, by typing 'battle <player_name>' while a battle is opening (not yet closed). This is useful in duels and '1 to 50 vs. some player' battles.
Players can be removed from battle with 'unbattle <name>' - but DO NOT do this until after the battle has been closed, as the results are again rather odd.
For duels, use 'battle 500 600' to put the players into the much smaller tournament battlefield. You will need to force the battlers into the battle with the 'battle <player_name>' command in this case, as the players will not be of a level to enter themselves.
To have a message placed after the word BATTLE in the battle channel, type battle chat <text> I.E. 'battle chat This is a 1 to 100 battle'
BLIST
blist add <name>
blist remove <name>
blist showIf you need to remove a name from the mud, this is the easiest and least permanent way to do it. The pfile will not be removed, but the player will not be allowed to log in. Generally, use only for illegal/profane names.
These are just a few of the commands you will have available. Some will require little explanation in their use. The ones above are mostly those that can have uses that may not be readily determined. And, some may not be available at your level yet, so if you get the 'Huh?' message when you try to use them, that is the problem.
Other commands, like the building commands (oindex, mindex, brset, etc.) are rather complicated and touchy, and will be gone over with you live.
Other points....
Be aware of possible problems when you wear equipment...if your alignment changes or you lose a piece of equipment for some reason, a lower level player might pick it up and use it. This will generally be no trouble, but if you have enchanted a piece of equipment for yourself (which you probably shouldn't bother doing actually), the enchant will be about +10000 HR/DR. Those items must not ever be allowed to fall into the hands of mortals, for obvious reasons. In general, do your best not to give mortals items under most circumstances.
You will no longer log in to your recall temple, but to the room you left the game from. You can still temple and recall to a temple city as before.
There are several imm-only note boards, check them out when you get time.
Once you get your stats fixed by a higher up, you will have access to all the spells and skills that any mortal can have. More or less. Don't know how you'd care much, but you never know when you'll want to test something.
You will be assigned a room in godland, if you haven't been already. Many of the imms have bperms (builder permission) in godland, so write up a room description when you can. Ask around, someone will most likely be able to fix it up fairly soon, or you can do it yourself when you are taught the building commands. Or both. Other things can be added as well (extra descriptions, exits, mobs, etc.), so think about that too.
Please...and this has been the downfall of more than one imm...please, PLEASE feel free to ask all the stupid questions that you can think of. Especially if you are a first-time imm, nothing up here will be familiar, and we don't expect that you will know much. Most of us remember the first day we spent mudding, asking questions like 'It keeps saying I'm thirsty, what do I do?' -- there's a good chance that you're at that same stage again up here. We don't want you to feel lost, and we know that you probably will be, so ask away. We've all been there, and we've mostly all seen new imms asking any question you can imagine.
Also, it's a given here that RL (real life) comes before mud life, don't feel the need to worry about that. While some of the imms here are younger and pretty much have limited demands on their time, others are older, married, have children...we have come to understand that RL can get in the way...let it, it's more important.
Above all, enjoy yourself. It's a lot of work at times, but imming should be fun as well. If you don't enjoy yourself, it's not worth the time.
And, with that in mind, there are a few rules:
1 - What you learn as an immortal, whether it is information about the mud, players, or upcoming plans for Mystic, MUST be kept confidential. If we have things that we want kept away from the general public, it's more than likely for a very good reason...just assume that you can't tell anyone, and find out from Kethry or one of the other imms whether or not that's true. This includes personal information about players or imms, information about areas / mobs / objects / quests / etc, unannounced plans for the mud or any aspect of it, or other things along those lines.
2 - Imms are not immune from the rules of the mud. You must obey the same rules as the players. The one exception to this (sort of) is the multiplay rule. Your mortals must still obey the same rules as the rest, but your immortal character doesn't count in the mix. You're allowed to have your imm character on along with your mortal (or mortals, if you obey the multi rules about staying in temple/mud school).
3 - In line with rules 1 and 2 - anything you learn as an imm can't be used to help your mortal. OK, this isn't an easy one, but lets try putting it this way - don't solve things with your imm that you can't solve with your mortal. Also, this applies to rare repop items...imms can see when a rare item pops, and you can't use that information to help your mortal get rare items. Or anyone else's mortal for that matter. And don't use your imm to bypass quests or to solve things in quests that you can't get through normal means. While it is sometimes not possible to avoid things along these lines, please try your best not to abuse things.
4 - As you might guess, loading or gathering equipment for your mortals is strictly forbidden, as is spelling up your mortals or using imm powers in other ways to help them. This can be very tempting, but don't go there...we've lost good immortals over this.
5 - One of the commands you can use, switch, places you into a mob, which you then control. DO NOT switch into mobs with mprogs, as that renders the programs useless (stops them from working). Also, avoid using mobs in battle or in sieges that have programs as well (mob battles are a restricted thing anyway, and not used often...ask first.)
That's enough for now. You'll learn a lot more online.
