orn and raised in the Midwest, Dr. Arnold received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota. He served on active duty with the United States Army during the Vietnam war and was assigned to the Clinical Psychology Department at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Upon completion of active duty, he earned graduate degrees from Indiana University, the University of California, and United States International University. He was a staff member at the University of California Irvine Medical Center for five years and also served as a staff psychologist at the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB. He is presently engaged in teaching and consulting services.

Dr. Arnold is a licensed psychologist and has provided counseling services for over 25 years. He is one of a handful of clinicians in California to hold all three counseling licenses issued by the state. He has lifetime credentials from the California Community Colleges as both Instructor and Counselor. He is a member of the Association of Aviation Psychologists, the Aerospace Medical Association, and the American Psychological Association.

Flying activities have been a part of his life for over 35 years. He soloed his first airplane at age 18 and during his flying career has earned licenses and ratings as a commercial pilot qualified to fly single and multi-engine airplanes and seaplanes. He holds an instrument rating and has also been trained in advanced aerobatics. He is the author of over 100 published articles on aviation psychology.

Arnold established the THAIRAPY flight relaxation training service in 1978 to assist air travelers and has become increasingly involved in the research and development of new methods for comfortable air travel. By combining his knowledge and experience in the two diverse fields of aviation and psychology, he has developed an entirely new approach to relaxed air travel using a fascinating blend of modern, state-of-the-art methods. At the present time, his energies are directed toward teaching greater numbers of people the proper techniques for comfortable flying.

Articles describing his work have appeared in various newspapers and magazines around the country and he is a frequent guest on radio and television shows. Dr. Arnold lives in southern California and is the father of two sons.
