UPDATE: According to NY Times, 6/30/06, NYPD caught John L. McGhee,38,charged him with murder,manslaughter and attempted robbery in connection with death of Edgar Garzon.

The W T C disaster eclipsed yet another hate crime that occurred 8/15/2001, the death of Edgar Garzon at the hands of two unknown felons cruising in a red car (a Hondai or Acura model with noisy exhaust), that took place two blocks away from where Julio Rivera lost his life in a similar bludgeoning attack years ago.

[Julio Rivera happened on a very bad scene behind PS 69 one summer's evening in 1989; an evil-minded young man led him there, where two accomplices jumped him, bashing his head with a hammer and baseball bat. Found curled-up in an embryonic huddle, drowning in a pool of blood on the sidewalk outside the schoolyard, Julio later died at the hospital.

The community board, duly petitioned by QGLU (a local gay organization), renamed the street corner "Julio Rivera Corner" and officially set aside this day for an annual parade, honoring Julio's memory and the loved ones he left behind. It took another 10 years for the City to put up the sign; one of the accused jumped bail, never served time.] 23 years have passed, an entire new generation has grown into young adulthood, and still this film Dedicated To The Memory Of Julio Rivera's slaughter at the hands of 3 misguided and evilly intentioned young men, remains unfinished. Leave it in its can then to ferment and disintegrate in its acids, leave the rotten stench to attract or repel other nameless things that crawl in the dark, rather than have its blood and bile PRECIOUSLY preserved and turned into palatable jam to be served up to the general public. 23 years have passed, and last night's discussion group still couldn't get past the victim's alleged peccadilloes, as originally proposed by the detectives themselves, one of whose son's later turned out to be implicated in this heinous crime, namely whether Julio (the victim) was a male hustler and/or a drug user, as if this argument could in any way be used to MITIGATE, excuse or justify what those evil children did, no country, no nation on this planet that considers itself civilized would allow any creature to be slaughtered in like manner yet these dehumanized, catatonic soul-less beings, determined that it was okay “to seek a gay guy to lay out that evening,” and poor Julio fell into their death trap. And, yes, it could have been YOU, you could have been their victim, more, I suggest YOU WERE THEIR VICTIM!, it was our very soul that was defiled that evening by these perverted children. Stop and ask yourselves, is it too late for the new up and coming generations, will we allow this infection, this contagion born of hatred and self-loathing, of IGNORANCE AND SUPERSTITION, to continue to propagate its foul seed amidst our new crop? Will we indifferently and silently stand aside and become the KILLERs' accomplices in spoiling mankind's flowering of yet unborn new generations?
