HOMESCHOOLERS: I WANT TO HELP YOU!
I was homeschooled from first grade through
high school. Now I have a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies and English from Southeastern College at Wake Forest.
My husband and I will be moving to Kernersville in February. I will be tutoring at several schools in the area with
Academics Plus, Inc., but I would also love to help the homeschoolers in the area.
I am available to tutor
students in English, Grammer, and Writing. I also proof-read, edit, and grade papers for middle and high school
students. I will meet with students to explain my edits if desired. When I was in high school my mom had an outside editor
grade my work, and it was great for me to have a non-emotional source to provide professional correction.
If these
options are of interest to you, please contact me!

Hello,
My name is Teresa. I have homeschooled for 13 years, am a certified
teacher and freelance writer. Recently I took 12 unit studies that I created and sold in San Antonio and put them all
on on CD to offer to homesschoolers for $10. I also am writing a Free on line magazine for girls ages 10-14. This
is called Tween magazine. Could you look at the information about both of these items and refer them to your homeschool
coop, email list or link us to your site. This is a mom trying to share some useful items with other homeschool moms.
Thank Teresa www.tweenmag.com

On-Line Tutoring |
|
Dear Fellow Homeschooler, My name is Brad Scott and I am writing
to seek your assistance. I am a father of two homeschooled children and am trying to let others know that
I can provide on-line tutoring to grades 8 - 12 level math students. With the advent of technology, online tutoring has become
virtually as effective as tutoring in person. Because of my support of, and belief in, homeschooling, it is primarily to
homeschooled student whom I wish to provide my services. It is difficult to find an effective means to reach homeschooled
students and I wish to gain your assistance. If there is any means by which you could inform other homeschoolers of my services
(ex.: newsletters/links on websites/word of mouth, etc.), I would be most grateful. Or if there are any avenues you could
suggest I should try, I would greatly appreciate that, too.
It is now possible to receive effective tutoring -online-
using the collaborative software called NetMeeting. Nearly all current Windows operating systems come with this software
already installed, and it is a free download to those who do not have it. NetMeeting has proven to fulfill all the requirements
conducive to excellent tutoring communications. These include full-duplex speech capability (just like a telephone) with speakers
and microphone; video via webcam; text messaging; file transfer abilities; and MOST EXCITING: an interactive "whiteboard"
where both the student and tutor can draw on the same screen, and make changes to the other participant's work.
My
expertise is drawn from having two young children who also are being homeschooled; in addition to my more than 10 years math
tutoring experience. My aim with students is to explain things in a clear logical way that they will understand; instructing
them in the WHY more than in the HOW. This style of teaching is directed to COMPREHENSION rather than RETENTION, the student
to understand why they're doing what they're doing, as opposed to having to remember how to do something. Learning of this
nature will stay with them for their lifetime. It is this approach which has rewarded me at the end of many sessions with
the exclamation: "That's SO EASY!"
I do enjoy my work as a math tutor very much, and would love to offer my service
to those, like myself, who believe, and are involved in, homeschooling. Would you please consider spreading my information
to those within the homeschooling community with whom you may have contact? Any assistqnce would be greatly appreciated. I
truly wish to help students realize that math can be both enjoyable and easy. And my efforts are to do what I can to help
them.

New Music from Local Christian Group
The Arrows' New Album: Justice Met Grace
October
31, 2005 : El Dorado, AR Months of preparation and anticipation came to an end as The Arrows, a Christian
musical group of homeschoolers, announced the release of their new album: Justice Met
Grace. The CD has twelve tracks, including one Romanian song. This album is a compilation of some of the group's favorite and most touching songs. "We hope that God will use this album to bless people," says Jessica Traylor, The Arrows' alto singer. "More than anything, we want to be used by Jesus."
Justice Met Grace is a mix of a cappella old hymns,
praise and worship music, and up-beat southern gospel. The Arrows' bass singer,
Jonathan Traylor, demonstrates his ability on the keyboard and guitar on some of the music of this album. Other tracks showcase The Arrows' family harmony in a cappella vocal.
In Justice Met Grace, you will hear the influence of the clear vocal blend
of the The Martins, the rich harmonies of The Cathedrals, and the beautiful melodies of Selah.
The new
release is available on The Arrows' website: www.thearrows.org. At their website, you can also listen to four of the songs from the new album and read about The Arrows'
background. For more information or to invite The Arrows to minister at your
church or event, contact Rachelle at 1(870)863-9237 or http://www.thearrows.org.

Homeschool Discount Cards
Dear Homeschool Group Leaders, Board Members and Individuals;
We are writing all homeschool groups to inform them of changes to JoAnn Fabrics
Registration process for their Teacher Discount Card. Because of a change they have
made to their registration process many home educators are feeling frustrated and alienated. PEAH has worked with JoAnn's to make special access codes for home
educators to be able to register on line for your own teacher discount card easy
and hassle free. This discount code is assigned by state and is only for Home Educators.
JoAnn's management is in the process of approving a Press Release that will
be distributed only within the homeschool community to notify you of the process. They
are trying to be inclusive of ALL home educators. They are also very trusting as a consistent
and guaranteed way of recognizing home educators is not available. We respectfully request,
"please make the discount code assigned for your state only available to individuals whom you know are home educators", as abused programs are more likely to
be eliminated.
You may obtain the access code that applies for your homeschool families at
http://www.peah.com/joann.php. Should you have any questions about this or if there
is any way we can be of service to you and your members, please let us know.
PEAH is working on behalf of all home educators to communicate special teacher
discounts, negotiate with companies who do not currently include homeschoolers in special
teacher discount programs and develop educational programs.
Further, it is not our intention to send unwanted information so should you wish
to be removed from our list of homeschool groups and notification
list please let me know. If we may include your group's information in our on-line
Homeschool Resource Directory please let me know. We want to make sure you get only
the information you want from us and that we make correct and appropriate information
available with your permission.
Sincerely,
Margaret Kahn

Dear Homeschooling Friends at Tri-County Area Home Educators,
I am writing to ask for your help in launching a new
service for homeschoolers: the Homeschool Buyers Co-op, a nonprofit* California corporation. The idea is that school
districts get discounts for educational products and services – why not homeschoolers?
School districts get educational
discounts because they make large purchases - they have purchasing power. We homeschoolers, on the other hand, routinely
pay retail prices because we buy in small quantities. As independent buyers, we have no purchasingpower.
A large,
national buyer cooperative of homeschoolers can change that by giving members the same purchasing power as the largest school
districts in the country. I proved that to myself this summer when I attended a homeschooling conference and asked many
of the exhibitors: “Would you give homeschoolers discounts if we bought in quantity?” The universal
answer was “Certainly!” I then placed a call to the educational division at Dell Computer and asked them
the same question. The result of that is that, from August 19 through September 30, Dell will give Homeschool Buyers Co-op
members up to 39% off on selected PC’s and peripherals. In the future, the Co-op will negotiate discounts from
other suppliers for products such as curriculum, media, science kits, books, educational games and toys.
The key to
our future success as a cooperative is broad support within the homeschooling community and a large membership. That’s
where you could help. By becoming an official sponsor of the Homeschool Buyers Co-op and getting the word out to your
members, you can play a critical part in building the Co-op into an effective service organization for the entire homeschooling
community.
There is no cost or obligation to becoming a sponsor. You simply give us permission to list you as
a sponsor on our web site, and, hopefully, get the word out to your members. The Co-op will proudly display your organization’s
name and link on our site. A large list of sponsors will show educational suppliers that there is strong support for
the Homeschool Buyers Co-op in the homeschooling community.
You will probably have many questions about this new organization.
Please take a look at a special preview of the upcoming Homeschool Buyers Co-op web site: http://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/Preview/Welcome.htm. The preview site will answer many of your questions.
I sincerely hope we can count
on your support! I look forward to hearing from you.
Warm regards,
Brett Walter Homeschooling Dad,
and President Homeschool Buyers Co-op Tel: 650-530-1959 Fax: 650-649-1949 brett.walter@homeschoobuyersco-op.org
* We are in the process of filing for nonprofit status.
