Frequently Asked Questions

Questions on shipping

Shipping will be added once you start the checkout process. Most upgrades and parts do not add extra shipping. Insurance can be added to any order. All shipping questions and upgrades can be handled on this page: Shipping

How do I place an order?

This site is still new and not all features have been uploaded yet. Some items may not be setup for a shopping cart purchase. If you see something you would like, but it does not have a "add to cart" option, let me know what it is. For the time being I can send you an order form for purchase. Shortly, all items will be available for standard online shopping cart purchase. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

As always, all shopping is safe and secure through Paypal's security measures and is guaranteed for up to $1000.00 by Paypal.

How long does it take to receive my order?

All orders are wired as the orders come in. They are wired in the order received. Orders tend to come in waves and from time to time I get very busy. Especially over the Holidays. Please allow about 5-6 weeks to receive your order. If there is a back order on any parts or the delivery time you will be notified.

Do you also do custom wiring harnesses, or "Les Paul" wiring harnesses?

Although not listed on my site yet, I also supply standard and custom wired Les Paul style harnesses. If you are interested in one, simply email me with the guitar you have, make and model and let me know what you are interested in. We can then discuss the pricing for a standard wired harness, or discuss the details and options for a custom wired harness. As time permits I will be adding Les Paul wiring harnesses to my website as standard products.

1. I have "-------" Pickups. Will these mods work with my pickups?

All of my mods will work with just about any passive pickups. Including but not limited to, All Varieties of Fender, including Stock MIA's, MIM's Squire's, Custom Shop, Vintage Noiseless, Hot Noiseless, SCN's etc., Lace Sensors - All varieties & Colors, Lindy Fralin, Rio Grande, all Dimarzio, all Seymour Duncan, Mighty Mite, GFS, Kent Armstrong and many more. If you are not sure your pickups are compatible please email me with the type of pickups you have and I will confirm if they are compatible.

Note - Some pickups like Lace Sensors require a 3rd wire as shielding ground for the pickup. If you have Lace Sensors or other noiseless pickups let me know and I will add the 3rd wire as needed.

If you have a full size Humbucker, it is best if it has a seperate shielded/ground wire that goes to the pickup.

2. Can you build me a full assembly with pickups on a pickguard?

Yes. Complete assemblies are available. We simply decide which pickups and wiring mod you would like. Then we decide on the color scheme. Once that is done I send you a quote for the entire project including parts and labor. You will receive a complete pickguard assembly ready to install. With only 3 wires to connect. I can offer competive prices on most popular brand pickups. And I use only high quality Genuine Fender and USA Made Parts.

3. Can I send you my Pickups and Pickguard and have you add in the custom wiring?

Absolutely. Simply decide on the mod you like or we can design something custom. You can then send your pickups and/or pickguard to TFN Tech and I will add my custom wiring to whatever parts you send and I will supply the rest of the needed parts. Prices will vary depending on wiring options and parts supplied by TFN Tech. Once we decide on the options I will send you a quote for the project.

4. Pickup Color Coding.

The Standard color code I use is White for pickup signal Hot, Black for Pickup signal Ground and Green or Brown for the RF shielding ground if needed. If you have Dimarzio’s, Seymour Duncans or Lace Sensors for example, the color code can be adjusted as needed so your connections will be color to color. Just let me know what model pickups you have and I will use the appropriate color code. This option is available at checkout for most common pickups.

5. How do I access the custom settings?

It varies from mod-mod. But I primarly use a special rotary switch. This switch goes in the center control position and replaces what is normally the neck tone control. The remaining tone which is normally the middle pickup tone is then wired as a Master tone. The Standard Rotary that I use is a 3 position switch. It has a knurled shaft like a regular guitar pot and any standard Strat knob, or other knob that mounts on a knurled shaft will fit onto the rotary switch. By using this switch it keeps the Strat looking 100% stock. So no one will know you have a hot rodded Strat until they hear you play it.

One of the positions on the rotary will give you factory settings on the 5 way switch. The other 2 positions on the Rotary will give you a combination of custom settings and factory settings on the 5 way. Charts of all the switching can be seen under the description for each mod.

Mods that do not use the Rotary switch use either Push Pull Pots or Mini Toggle switches to access the custom settings.

In some cases, no custom rotaries, toggles or push pulls are used. Some custom wiring is done with just the stock controls and changing the settings on the 5 way. I generally only do this if requested, as I like to always have a setting that retains your stock pickup settings.

6. What about my Factory settings? Will I loose those?

No you won’t. Unless you have me design a custom mod without them, your factory settings will always be available to you in their normal location. My Standard mods offer settings that are in additional to the factory settings, not in place of.

7. I have a guitar with a Bridge Humbucker HSS and/or one with 2 Humbuckers HSH. Will these mods work?

Yes. All of my standard mods will work with any combination of Single Coil Pickups and Dual Coil. The Humbuckers can be full size humbuckers, or small humbuckers like a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails or JB JR. Or they can be Stacked humbuckers. All my mods are also compatible with Lace Dually Pickups. Check out my mod for Dual Humbucker (HH) Guitars. Super HH Mod with coil splitting.

8. What about coil splitting my humbuckers?

Coil splitting can be added by visting the Upgrades page.

You can select coil splitting as an option to add to your shopping cart. Select the coil splitting options you would like, ie on a Push Pull or Mini Toggle, pick the location you want the control and which pickup you want to have it split. The coil splitting will then be added to your harness. Any other details can be added in the Paypal message box.

9. I Like a Standard Mod, but I want to add a TBX or Other Option?

Any options like a TBX Control, a Toggle or Push Pull for coil splitting or a Treble Bypass circuit can be added. These options are available on my Upgrades  page. Extras are only available with purchase of a harness or custom project. Many options are possible and I can't list them all, or come up with a product for every possible combination, so if you don’t see what you want, don’t hesitate to ask. I have wired just about everything at least once.

10. Will your mods work with Active Pickups like EMG’s?

Due to the 9V Battery circuit needed for active pickups, the series settings will not function properly with these pickups. However custom wiring is still available. If you have active pickups and would like a quote for some custom wiring, send me an email and I will let you know exactly what we can do.

11. How easy is it to install one of your wiring harnesses?

It’s as easy as possible. With hundreds sold I have not yet had any customers with install problems. You will receive a package with your harness that will include wiring instructions and materials. There will be twisted pairs of wires that will be clearly labeled as, Bridge, Middle, Neck and Output. You simply connect my wires to yours. The wires will connect color to color and you can connect them by either using the supplied crimp connectors (So no Soldering) or solder them and use the supplied heatshrink to protect the connection. Finally if you have any questions before, during or after the install process I will be available through email for any help or questions you have.

12. Will your Mods effect the look of my Strat? I like the Factory Look and don’t want a bunch of switches and toggles on my pickguard.

My Standard mods will not alter the appearence of a Factory 3 Pickup Strat with the standard 5 way, Master Volume and 2 tones. It will be a direct replacement for your existing wiring harness and use the same mounting holes as the old one. Your existing knobs will also fit right on. So your guitar will look identical after the install to what it looked like before. It will only sound better. I can also do any custom mod you want with as many extra toggles or switches as needed. For those who don't care about keeping the stock look, there are a lot more options.

13. Will your mods fit into a Rear routered Strat without a pickguard?

In most cases yes 100%. The only concern is the thickness of the body where the controls go through. The threads on my custom rotary switch are the shortest of my controls at 1/4" long. So the wood where the controls mount must be a little thinner than that to accept the rotary. If it is, you are all set. If it’s too thick, you can either have the wood thinned a little in that area so the rotary will mount This can be done with a dremel or router by a Luthier or yourself if you have the tools and know how. Or we can discuss some other wiring options using long shaft push pull pots or mini toggles.

14. Do you do wiring on guitars other than Strats?

Yes I do. I will do wiring on anything that can be wired. Strats are just my favorite to work with and the best for sending out pre-wired harnesses. Other guitars may need to be shipped to TFN Tech to be wired. I can work on Telecasters, Les Pauls or anything else you have. Send me an email with what you have and we can discuss the wiring options.

15. Can I ship my entire guitar to you for a wiring upgrade and setup?

Yes you can. Once we decide on the best wiring mod for you. I will send you a quote for the parts and labor that are needed. You can then ship the guitar and your parts to TFN Tech and I will complete the project and return the guitar to you completed. A standard setup will be performed if needed. Including Neck Adjustment, Action adjustment, Intonation, Saddle height etc.

16. I saw a cool mod on a custom guitar website. I like the mod but can’t do the wiring myself. Will you build this mod for me?

Yes. Any wiring you have seen on any of the custom wiring websites is available through TFN Tech. As long as I see no technical/wiring problems with the mod. I will wire the mod up for you. Parts and Labor will apply. Simply contact me with a link to the wiring mod and I will send you a quote. Once approved I can send you a Paypal invoice for the total.

17. Do you supply schematics of your wiring mods so I can do the work myself?

Not at this time. I can supply certain schematics for various wiring projects. But not for the custom mods you see on this site. This may be an option in the future, so keep checking back.
